A People Called to Become the Story We Tellbeloved

Once a year, St. Mark’s asks every household to give generously to St. Mark’s so that we can continue to be the people God is calling us to be through our many ministries – from worship with music to fellowship with food, from feeding our minds to feeding our neighbors, from caring for our building and grounds to sharing our building, from advocacy and outreach to hospitality and pastoral care.  You are the reason we can do any of these things and you are the story that St. Mark’s has to tell to the world around us. What do we mean by that?

The apostle Paul, writing to the church in Corinth, said: You yourselves are our letter, written on our hearts, to be known and read by all; and you show that you are a letter of Christ, prepared by us, not written with ink but the with the Spirit of the living God (2 Corinthians 3:2-3). You see, when we are out in the world, living our lives – at work, at school, at community meetings, wherever we go – we are Christ’s representatives. We tell the story of our faith – we are the letter of God to the world – by the kind of lives we live.  Throughout the month of January, we will hear more about this in Pastor Debra’s sermons about how we are A People Called to Become the Story We Tell, called to become Christ’s letter to the world. And that is the theme of our Annual Campaign – A People Called

APeopleCalledOur story of faith tells us that we have everything we need to accomplish all that God is calling us to do.  We have within us the resources to follow God’s call.  But we need to be willing to take a risk – to risk giving generously out of the abundance God gives us even in the midst of conversations about our future together, trusting that our dreams can be realized if everyone plays their part in the unfolding drama of God’s work among us.  With every household’s participation, we will become the community God is calling us to be.

Last year, 92 St. Mark’s households pledged a little over $271,000.  In 2018, we are challenging St. Mark’s to pledge and give $276,000 (or more)!  Why do we think we can meet this goal?  Because YOU are a people who dream BIG and YOU are a people who are already showing in your lives that you are ready to follow God where you are called to go.

100% of St. Mark’s vestry leaders and clergy have already made their pledges for 2018 and, on avarage, have increased their giving by 16% over last year’s pledge.  Won’t you join us? We are asking every household at St. Mark’s to stretch a bit to help us meet the goal.

Adult’s Pledge Card

Please complete the pledge card and return it to St. Mark’s on or before our Worship & Annual Meeting on Sunday, January 28 at 9:30 a.m. so that we can celebrate the ways we are already showing the world that the letter of God is written on the hearts of St. Mark’s.  Thank you, in advance, for your generosity and support of St. Mark’s.
