How can I contribute to projects at St. Mark's?

Hospitality Center

St. Mark's is home to EEAC's Hospitality Center, which operates every weekday morning from 7:00 to 11:00. Guests of the Hospitality Center find companionship, nutritious snacks, mental health and substance abuse counselling, job advice, and the opportunity to participate in an art program.

Volunteering:

Volunteers are needed on weekday mornings to attend the door of the church and direct guests upstairs to the Hospitality Center. To volunteer, contact Deacon Lee Gaede.

Soup Kitchen

St. Mark's hosts the EEAC soup kitchen four times a year, sometimes in our own church kitchen, sometimes in the kitchen of First Methodist.

Volunteering:

To volunteer to cook or serve food, contact the Outreach Cluster.

Food Pantry

Every week, St. Mark's collects donations of nutritious, non-perishable food items. Most of these items are delivered to St. Augustine's Center for American Indians in Uptown. We also collect single-serving, nutritious food items such as foil-packaged tuna and fruit cups to give to needy people who come to the church asking for food.

Volunteering:

To volunteer to help deliver food to St. Augustine's Center, contact Deacon Lee Gaede.

Donating:

To donate canned goods, simply bring them to church on Sunday and place them in the bin at the back of the nave.

Ten Thousand Villages

St. Mark's is a sponsoring parish of Ten Thousand Villages, an Evanston store that sells fairly-traded handicrafts from around the world.

Volunteering:

To volunteer in the store (one four-hour shift per month), contact Liz Stout.

Supporting:

To support the work of 10,000 Villages, simply shop at the store, located at 719 Main Street in Evanston.

Christmas Baskets

Through the Christmas Basket program at Cathedral Shelter of Chicago, St. Mark's provides Christmas gifts and food for several large, needy families in Chicago. You can choose to buy gifts for one or more children, or provide some part of the Christmas meal for a family.

Donating:

To donate gifts or food, contact Deacon Lee Gaede.

Tree of Warmth

During Advent, St. Mark's receives donations of new or good-condition used hats, scarves, mittens and jackets for the children who are served by St. Augustine's Indian Center in the Uptown neighborhood in Chicago.

Donating:

To donate warm clothing, simply bring your contributions to St. Mark's during Advent and place them on the tree in the nave.

Other Agencies and Ideas

Every Autumn, the Outreach & Social Justice cluster makes small grants from our budget to agencies serving a variety of needs in the local community and the world.

Donating:

To donate to the Outreach & Social Justice budget, make a gift to St. Mark's and indicate that it is designated for Outreach.
