St. Mark’s is blessed by your presence at worship, just as we are by your service to St. Mark’s and our local community. Because of your service and gratitude St. Mark’s continues to inspire and form an ever-growing number of people of all ages in the richness of Episcopal traditions.  Because of you, St. Mark’s continues to prepare and serve a nourishing lunch for our hungry neighbors every Wednesday.  Because of you, St. Mark’s continues to be a neighborhood resource – providing sanctuary for homeless adults through Interfaith Action of Evanston’s Hospitality Center, providing a place of healing for those recovering from addiction, providing a place of fun and gathering for a Brownie Troop, the Evanston Junior Wildkit Cheerleaders and countless other groups who use our space throughout the year.   Because of you, Evanston knows that St. Mark’s is making a difference.

The theme of the 2017 Annual Pledge Campaign is Bound Together in Christ. In his letter to the Ephesians, Paul writes:

I therefore, the prisoner in the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of the calling to which you have been called, with all humility and gentleness, with patience, bearing with one another in love, making every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called to the one hope of your calling, one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of all, who is above all and through all and in all.

St. Mark’s gathers to heal what is broken in our lives and in our community.  We are a people who express gratitude even when – perhaps especially when – we feel anxious.  St. Mark’s is a people who come together to make community and to celebrate God’s bounty in a world that speaks only of division and of scarcity.   And St. Mark’s does all of this because we are bound together in Christ, willing to bear with one another in love and to make every effort to maintain the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.  We do all of this with God’s help. Thanks be to God!

Being bound together in Christ seems particularly relevant as we live into a year following a difficult and contentious national election that has left our nation divided and unsettled. As members of St. Mark’s, we are challenged by the example of Christ to continue the vital outreach ministries that bring hope and offer renewal during a time of anxiety and uncertainty. It is precisely that spirit of service, generosity and gratitude that can serve to heal and bind us all together as part of the body of Christ.

At the top of this page, you will find a link to the 2017 Pledge Card. We invite you to prayerfully consider pledging a financial commitment to St. Mark’s this year.  We hope you will reflect on the many ways St. Mark’s touches you and others in the community.  This year’s campaign goal is $276,000.  With your help, we can make it!

To help you as you consider your gift, in 2016, the average pledge to St. Mark’s was just over $3000 with a median pledge of $1500.  If you are pledging to St. Mark’s for the first time, we encourage you to give a percentage of your household income.  On the back of the pledge card, you will see a table that will help you calculate your gift as a proportion of your annual income.

We are grateful for the gifts you bring to St. Mark’s and marvel at how God cherishes and multiplies each and every gift for God’s good purposes. Please return your pledge card to: St. Mark’s Episcopal Church, Attn. Stewardship, 1509 Ridge Avenue, Evanston, IL 60201 or place it in the offering plate on Sunday morning. Again, thank you for your prayerful consideration of your gift to St. Mark’s. We are, after all, bound together in Christ!

Faithfully Yours,

Aina Gutierrez, Ted Richardson, and Debra Bullock
